Volunteer Patrol

Volunteers that patrol the neighborhood are a big reason we have a much lower crime rate than the surrounding areas. Volunteers sign up to patrol the neighborhood in their own vehicles with CNA provided magnetic signs and a cool “Starsky and Hutch” style yellow flashy light which magnetically attaches to the top of a vehicle.

Patrols will be noted in the comments section and include walking, bicycling or vehicle patrol. These high visibility patrols insure that criminally minded individuals will not feel comfortable to commit crimes in our neighborhood.

    Date: Sunday 6-10-07
    Method: Bike Patrol
    Time: 9:10 pm – 10:10 pm
    Report:
Found several broken beer bottles on the North side of Cleveland Elementary by the West steps. There were more bottles in the trash can. We need to watch this area as someone is using it to drink alcohol and then littering the playground with the empties.
A suspicious subject was on the West side of the school. White male, 30-40 years old, blond hair and mustache, blue clothing. I rode by him and asked him how he was doing and proceeded to ride around the perimeter of the school. On my return, the man had left the playground and was walking westbound on 23rd street towards May Ave.
While riding around NW Classen, I noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on the South side of the school. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the vehicle, a blue compact car with tinted windows and wire rims, was occupied by at least two people. As I rode around the front, I noticed a male in the drivers side with the seat leaned all the way back and another person in a position which made it difficult to determine identity.
I called the Oklahoma City Police Department at 231-2121, identified myself as a Cleveland Neighborhood Watch participant, and told them what I had seen. I then proceeded to the North side of the school and down to Venice then back to NW Classen. Upon my return 5 minutes later, an OCPD patrol car was leaving the parking lot and the suspicious vehicle was gone.
No further incidents were recorded on this patrol.

    Date: 6/22/07
    Method: Vehicle
Report: At approximately 11:25 pm, I was driving through the neigborhood northbound on Linn from 23rd when I saw a female stumbling down the street. I stopped to ask her if she needed help and she said she was trying to get home but I couldn’t understand her very well because of her slurred speech. I called OCPD and followed her when she turned westbound on 26th. She nearly fell over several times and I was concerned for her safety so I got out of my car and had her sit down on the curb at the 2600 block until an OCPD officer arrived and took her into custody. The woman said that she had been in an argument with her niece and was walking home. She was extremely intoxicated and confused and was walking in the opposite direction of her home. She said she lived in the area of Martin Luther King and NE. 16.
